The words that started it all
It started with a simple, everyday moment in the kitchen. One of the co-founders of FoilGuard® walked in to find his wife carefully unrolling a sheet of parchment paper and struggle fitting it into a disposable aluminum pan. Curious, he asked her why she does that when she cooks.
She gave him two reasons. The first was practical — parchment paper creates a non-stick surface that makes it effortless to remove food from the pan once it’s done cooking. No tearing, no sticking, no wrestling with your food to get it out. The second reason, however, stopped him in his tracks.
“She said that aluminum leaches into food when it’s heated in the oven. That’s why certain foods sometimes have a metallic taste — especially when you cook with acidic ingredients like tomatoes, lemon, or vinegar. The parchment paper acts as a barrier between the food and the metal.”
He had never heard this before, but the moment she said it, everything made sense. He thought about all the times he’d noticed an off-taste in a dish and never understood why. It was a revelation — and it led him to his next question…
As he watched the parchment paper flopping loosely around the inside of the pan — sliding around, bunching up at the corners and look sloppy — he turned to his wife and asked: “Have you ever seen a disposable aluminum pan with parchment paper already built in?”
She thought for a moment and shook her head. “I’ve never seen it,” she said. “But I’d be a customer if someone did.”
