Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about FoilGuard® parchment-lined aluminum pans.

What is FoilGuard?

FoilGuard combines the convenience of a disposable aluminum pan with the benefits of fitted parchment paper—already built in and ready to use. No cutting. No folding. No struggling to get parchment paper to stay in place. Just fill, cook, serve and enjoy. FoilGuard is a disposable aluminum pan with parchment paper built directly into the inside of the pan. Instead of buying a disposable aluminum pan and then separately cutting, folding and fitting parchment paper into it, FoilGuard gives you both in one convenient product. The parchment is fitted to the pan and designed to stay in place during normal use.

How is FoilGuard different from a traditional disposable aluminum pan?

A traditional disposable aluminum pan has an exposed aluminum cooking surface. FoilGuard adds a fitted parchment layer between your food and the aluminum. This gives you the convenience and strength of an aluminum pan while providing a nonstick parchment cooking surface.

Why not just line a regular aluminum pan with parchment paper?

You can—but anyone who has tried it knows the frustration. Loose parchment paper can curl, fold, shift, pop out of the pan or refuse to stay against the sides. It also has to be measured, cut and fitted for each pan. FoilGuard eliminates those extra steps because the parchment is already fitted and built into the pan.

Does the parchment stay in place?

Yes. That’s one of the main reasons FoilGuard was created. The parchment is integrated into the pan so it stays fitted against the aluminum instead of moving around like a loose sheet of parchment paper.

Can I remove the parchment lining?

FoilGuard’s parchment lining is designed to remain attached to the pan during normal cooking, baking, serving and storage. It is not intended to be removed before use.

What foods can I cook in FoilGuard?

FoilGuard can be used for many of the same foods you would normally prepare in a disposable aluminum pan, including lasagna and baked ziti; macaroni and cheese; chicken and roasted meats; brisket; fish; roasted vegetables; potatoes; rice dishes; casseroles; stuffing; baked beans; brownies and desserts; cookies; and other baked goods. Different FoilGuard sizes are available for different cooking and baking needs.

Is FoilGuard nonstick?

The parchment-lined cooking surface provides a naturally nonstick surface that helps food release more easily than cooking directly against bare aluminum. This can also make serving and cleanup easier.

Do I need cooking spray?

For many foods, no additional cooking spray is necessary because food is cooking on parchment rather than directly on bare aluminum. Certain recipes may still call for oil, butter or cooking spray as part of the recipe.

What is the maximum oven temperature?

FoilGuard pans are oven safe up to 425°F (218°C). Do not exceed the maximum temperature stated on the product packaging.

Can FoilGuard go in the oven?

Yes. FoilGuard is designed for conventional oven cooking and baking up to 425°F. Fill the pan with your food and place it into the oven just as you would a traditional disposable aluminum pan.

Can FoilGuard go under a broiler?

Because broilers expose cookware to extremely high direct heat, FoilGuard should not be placed directly under a broiler or against an exposed heating element.

Can FoilGuard go in the microwave?

No. FoilGuard contains aluminum and should not be used in a microwave.

Can FoilGuard be used in an air fryer?

Only use FoilGuard in an air fryer if the air fryer manufacturer permits aluminum cookware and the pan fits properly without interfering with airflow or contacting a heating element. Never allow the parchment to come into contact with an exposed heating element.

Is FoilGuard freezer-friendly?

Yes. FoilGuard pans are freezer-friendly, making them convenient for preparing meals in advance, storing leftovers and transporting food.

Can I use FoilGuard for meal prep and make-ahead dishes?

Yes. FoilGuard works well for meal preparation, catering, parties, holidays and make-ahead dishes. Prepare your food in the pan, refrigerate or freeze as appropriate, and cook when ready.

Why is the parchment barrier useful?

Parchment provides a physical barrier between your food and the aluminum cooking surface. In addition to creating a nonstick surface, the parchment reduces direct food-to-aluminum contact during cooking and storage. This can be especially useful when cooking acidic or salty foods.

Why do acidic or salty foods matter?

Certain foods—particularly acidic or salty foods—can react more readily with aluminum. Foods such as tomatoes, citrus, vinegar-based dishes and salty marinades may have greater interaction with an exposed aluminum surface than less acidic foods. FoilGuard’s built-in parchment creates a barrier between the food and the aluminum cooking surface.

Can I cook tomato, citrus or vinegar-based foods in FoilGuard?

Yes. Foods containing tomatoes, citrus, vinegar and other acidic ingredients are actually one of the situations where having a parchment barrier can be particularly useful. Instead of the food sitting directly against exposed aluminum, it sits primarily against FoilGuard’s parchment-lined cooking surface.

Does FoilGuard eliminate all aluminum exposure?

FoilGuard is designed to reduce direct contact between your food and the aluminum pan by providing a parchment-lined cooking surface. We prefer not to claim that any cooking product completely eliminates all potential aluminum exposure. Parchment creates a neutral cooking surface between your food and the aluminum, which can help reduce direct interaction between certain foods and the metal pan.

Does FoilGuard make cleanup easier?

Because food cooks against parchment instead of directly against the aluminum surface, baked-on and stuck-on food is reduced. When you’re finished, there’s no need to soak and scrub a traditional pan. Cook. Serve. Enjoy. Dispose.

Do I still need to buy parchment paper?

Not for lining your FoilGuard pan. That’s the entire idea behind FoilGuard—the parchment is already there. No separate roll of parchment. No measuring. No cutting. No folding. No fighting with paper that won’t stay in place.

Can I serve food directly from the pan?

Yes. FoilGuard is designed to go from preparation to oven to table, buffet, catering tray or takeout application.

Is FoilGuard useful for foodservice?

Yes. FoilGuard can be especially useful in foodservice environments where speed, consistency and cleanup matter. Instead of employees manually lining individual aluminum pans with parchment paper, FoilGuard arrives ready to fill. That can help simplify food preparation and create a more consistent finished pan.

Is FoilGuard only for home cooks?

No. FoilGuard is designed for both home cooks and commercial foodservice applications, including caterers, restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, meal-prep companies, commercial kitchens, schools, institutions, charities and other foodservice operations.

How is the parchment attached to the pan?

FoilGuard uses a proprietary manufacturing process to securely integrate the parchment with the aluminum pan. The food-contact cooking surface is the parchment, while the bonding system is part of the construction between the parchment and the pan. FoilGuard is specifically designed so that the parchment stays fitted to the pan during its intended use. Always follow the temperature and handling instructions printed on the package.

Can I cut food inside the pan?

You can serve food from the pan, but we recommend avoiding aggressive cutting or sharp utensils that could unnecessarily puncture or damage the parchment lining.

Are FoilGuard pans strong?

Yes. FoilGuard pans are designed to provide the strength and convenience expected from a quality disposable aluminum pan while incorporating the built-in parchment lining.

Are FoilGuard pans leak-resistant?

FoilGuard pans are designed to provide a secure, leak-resistant cooking and serving container for normal food preparation and storage. Always handle filled disposable pans carefully and support the bottom when transporting heavy foods.

How should I handle a hot, filled FoilGuard pan?

Always support the bottom of the pan when removing it from the oven. Do not lift a filled disposable aluminum pan by the sides alone. Disposable aluminum pans can flex when carrying heavy or hot food, so use proper oven mitts and support the bottom.

Can FoilGuard be used over an open flame or stovetop burner?

No. FoilGuard is intended for oven use and should not be placed directly over an open flame, stovetop burner or other direct heating element.

Can FoilGuard pans be reused?

FoilGuard is designed primarily as a disposable cooking, serving and storage solution rather than permanent reusable bakeware. FoilGuard is designed for disposable convenience.

Can FoilGuard pans be recycled?

Recycling requirements for products containing multiple materials can vary by municipality, so check your local recycling rules before placing a used FoilGuard pan in a recycling bin.

What sizes are available?

FoilGuard is available in a growing selection of popular disposable pan sizes for cooking, baking, catering and foodservice. Visit our Shop FoilGuard section to see all currently available sizes.

Are lids available?

Yes. FoilGuard also offers compatible lid options for select pan sizes. Check the individual product page to find the appropriate lid for your pan.

Which size should I choose?

It depends on what you’re making. Smaller pans are ideal for side dishes, smaller meals, takeout and meal prep, while larger pans work well for lasagna, baked pasta, roasted meats, catering, parties and family-size meals. Each product page provides dimensions to help you choose the right size.
